What’s new in Rosebank?
Our neighbourhood is exploding this year with lots of exciting new business launching in the precinct, further cementing Rosebank’s status as Joburg’s leading lifestyle destination.
Here’s a look at all the latest new attractions and what they offer to keep you up to speed.
New at Rosebank Mall
Throughout 2021 Rosebank Mall has continued to attract pop-up activations and more independent brands, particularly within the new SOKO District department store space that launched in winter 2021. Among the most recently opened attractions in the mall are:
Gather Grocer (opened Dec 2021)
A unique convenience store concept located inside SOKO District. Gather Grocer specialises in promoting locally sourced artisanal products and speciality foods such as organic chocolates, homemade pickles and sauces and organic fruit and vegetables.
Instanation (opened late 2021)
This social media playground on Level 3 of the mall (opposite the rooftop parking) has over 30 different artistic installations that are designed especially for content creators to explore. Entrance costs R100 and tickets are available at instanation.co.za. Once inside of course you may take as many photos as you like!
New at The Zone@Rosebank
The Zone @ Rosebank, a vibrant lifestyle and entertainment centre, has reclaimed its position as one of Joburg’s leading dining destination with an incredible choice of restaurants, cafes and fast food offerings. The latest openings at The Zone include:
Modern Tailors (opened Feb 2022)
A modern Indian-inspired restaurant with sleek and colourful interiors located in the middle of The Zone’s restaurant boulevard. Pending the approval of the liquor licence they’ll also be running a casual bar (at present patrons can bring their own wine).
My Diners (opened Jan 2022)
A halaal restaurant and shisha cafe that has transformed the space that was formerly Mike’s Kitchen on the upper level of the centre.
Maverick and Jane (opened Dec 2021)
A casual spot to pick up gourmet popcorn and gelato, this local brand has moved into a bigger store (they were previously in a kiosk) just below the cinema.
Modrockers (opened Jan 2022)
A plant-based fast food takeaway concept located next to McDonalds.
NY Pizza (opened late 2021)
A new New York-inspired fast food concept selling pizza by the slice.
Yalla! (opening soon)
A fun Middle Eastern street food concept, that also has branches in Fairland and Morningside.
Bootlegger Coffee Company (opened late 2021)
The Cape Town coffee chain launched its first Rosebank branch opposite the entrance to The Link building. Serving all day breakfast and coffee it’s a popular spot for casual business meetings.
The Honest Travel Experience Store (opened Jan 2022)
Honest Travel Experience is a local tourism company specialising in adventurous, off-beat walking and cycling tours of Johannesburg. As well as being the place to book tickets for Joburg experiences, the store also rents e-scooters which you can use to get around the neighbourhood. Find them opposite Clicks (next to the City Sightseeing bus office).
We Are Going (opens autumn 2022)
We Are Egg is a cool department store concept launched by entrepreneur Paul Simon (the brains behind the YDE chain) and retailer Arie Fabian. Showcasing unique local and international beauty, fashion, accessories and wellness brands, the department store also has in-store food offerings from top local chefs. After a series of delays in 2021, the first We Are Egg store in Joburg is scheduled to open in late autumn / winter in the space formerly occupied by Piza e Vino).

The Pantry by Marble (opens Mar 2022)
Gary Kyriacou and Chef David Higgs’ The Marble Group, is spreading its wings at Keyes Art Mile with their much anticipated new retail space The Pantry by Marble. A collaboration with Sasol, it is located in the long-vacant filling station below Keyes Art Mile on Jan Smuts Avenue. Envisioned as a reinvention of a typical convenience store. Open 24/7 The Pantry offers ready-to-go gourmet meals prepared by the Marble team, gourmet deli and bakery products, flowers, wine, and everyday essentials and also has a wood-fired pizza oven. For drivers of hybrid or electric cars, the garage also has electric car charging stations.
voco Hotel The Bank (opened Feb 2022)
The long-awaited voco Hotel The Bank officially opened its doors to guests on Feb 1 in The Bank building on Cradock Avenue. voco is a boutique hotel brand by IHG, and The Bank is voco’s first hotel in South Africa. Spanning six floors, the 131-room hotel is a lifestyle-led hotel that is described as “charming, unstuffy and playful”. Business mixes with leisure with the all-day Proud Mary restaurant and adjoining coffee bar Proud Coffee. The vibrant co-working space Workshop17 on the second floor is also now officially open.
