#GoRosebank safety tips

Welcome to Rosebank, one of Johannesburg’s most popular and walkable districts. As a managed precinct, we take pride in maintaining a safe and vibrant neighborhood for all. To ensure you have the best experience, we encourage you to read through these helpful safety tips. Personal safety starts with being aware of your surroundings, and by staying mindful, you can enjoy everything Rosebank has to offer with peace of mind.

WHAT TO KNOW ON THE GO

  • Do not text, take phone calls, or hold your phone out while walking in the streets!
  • If you must use your phone make sure to keep your eyes on your surroundings,
or where possible step into a nearby shop, restaurant or building foyer.
  • Do not leave your phone, wallet or any valuables on the table when at a bar or restaurant.
  • When using headphones, keep one ear open so you can hear what is happening around you.
  • Avoid snatching! Do not flash gold chains, watches and keep your bags zipped up and secured tightly.
  • If you are waiting for an e-hailing taxi, wait inside, at a gate or near a uniformed security guard.
Enable the safety features on your e-hailing app. Verify the numberplate of the vehicle before getting into the car.

BE STREET SMART

  • Avoid scammers. Rosebank is a public precinct. You DO NOT NEED a permit or ticket to access the streets, shopping centres or public spaces.
  • Do not give anyone your bank card.
Do not enter your bank pin into any handheld keypad (even a calculator) or building entrance keypad.
  • Do not let a stranger lead or accompany you to an ATM for any reason.
  • Do not allow any person near you at the ATM. Ensure that no one can see your pin.
  • If you have an issue using the ATM, report it to your bank directly and immediately.
  • When making a card purchase anywhere, keep your card with you and make sure
that the transaction is processed in front of you.
  • Rosebank has a high number of security guards in the area, in branded uniforms with name tags or a company ID. If approached by anyone you are unsure of, walk to your nearest shopping area, hotel or office and ask for assistance.

WHEN DRIVING

  • Vigilance is key. Keep your windows shut, and your doors locked when driving. Make sure that any valuables are concealed, and not visible to passer-by. Avoid leaving valuables in your unattended vehicle. If you must, be vigilant of your surroundings when putting your belongings into your vehicle. Use the boot.
  • Always lock your vehicle’s doors and manually check them before you walk away.
  • If you notice obstacles such as rocks or tyres on the road, drive away.
